GURKHA NINJA (@gurkhacigars)

If you’ve read any of my previous reviews on Gurkha cigars you know I wasn’t a big fan of them at first, but that was a long time ago and I’ve had the pleasure of smoking some of their better cigars and the Ninja is no exception.

Cigar: Gurkha Ninja Knife
Country: Dominican Republic
Wrapper: Maduro
Price: $8.00
Strength: Medium
Length: 6
Gauge: 50

Gurkha Ninja cigars are loaded with the kind of rich flavor and complexity for which Gurkha cigars are famous. You’ll enjoy a medium-bodied smoke with an earthy-woody base underpinned by flavors of coffee and cream on a remarkably clean finish.  You may also find notes of chocolate, caramel and other sweet flavors in the mix.

The first thing I noticed was the Ninja was a very well made cigar!  Solid in the hand the wrapper had nice lines and veins all wrapped in a nice dark brown wrapper.  I got this particular cigar from a local cigar shop and I felt it was a little on the dry side.  The head cut nice and clean with a very good dry draw.  Upon lighting the nose yielded a very nice aroma producing thick dense smoke…in fact this cigar was a “Smoke Monster” from start to finish!  The draw was also very good and hit after hit produced think, aromatic smoke yielding notes right off the bat of coffee and dark if not bitter chocolate.  At points the cigar almost had a dry, bitter taste moving gain to coffee and chocolate notes.  The cigar overall burnt well.  There were a few times I had a runner which I think was due more to the way the cigar had been stored instead of its overall construction.  All together the Gurkha Ninja was another pleasant cigar.  I didn’t like it as well as the Ghost Angel, but this was a solid smoke.

Cheers!

DOGFISH HEAD 60 MINUTE IPA (@dogfishbeer)

When I heard that we were able to get Dogfish Head beer again in these parts I damn near split my pants with the instant erection I got.  Dogfish Head has been gone for about 3 years now or ever since their show “Brewmaster’s” mysteriously was pulled from the History Channel’s programming lineup for allegedly upsetting the Beverage Giant MBEV who coincidently is a major sponsor (Budweiser) of said channel!

All that being said I had to sit back and follow Dogfish Head (@dogfishbeer) on twitter and Crackbook silently hoping it would return to me someday!  Well my wait is over and I present Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA!

Style: American IPA
%ABV: 6.0
Brewery: Dogfish Head Craft Brewery
BeerAdvocate: 92 Outstanding!!!

As far as IPAs go 60 minute is a solid as they come.  Not too hoppy and not too malty.  Its flavor profile is a well-balanced IPA and pairs with Pizza of any style!  The beer pours a nice light straw color with a nice bubbly head.  The aroma is that of hops with hints of malt and grass.   First sip is a modest hop explosion with a smooth bitter finish with hints of malt.  It’s a lighter tasting beer for an IPA and I’m pretty sure I could drink several of these much to the chagrin of my liver!

Right now we can get the 60 minute, 90 minute IPAs and Midas Touch which is an ancient ale.  I found Dogfish at both Binny’s and Friar Tuck in Champaign, IL.  Haven’t found it yet in Indiana where up until 3 years ago it was abundant.  So if you’re craving some DFH Beer then I highly suggest you get your ass in a car and shag ass to Champaign and get your drink on!

Cheers!
